fuun and frolics on the islands

well hello again,
hope everyone's well. we'd a bit of a mad weekend there. still recovering from it all. it was a long weekend here so we all headed off on a bit of an outting to one of the islands not too far from Auckland , called the great barrier island. we got a wee little 10 seater plane out there and the ferry back (which at the time seemed to be a good idea!) . got the plane on Saturday, which was a great laugh. we were all crammed into this wee little chitty chitty bang bang. the island is class. its 40km long and a good few wide. mad scenery, loads of beaches and hills and some great views. the whole place is a bit deserted. we stayed in a hostel place right beside the irish bar (of course - the only pub in the place) didnt do much on saturday cos by the time we'd got there it was late enough and we were all a bit tired from the night before so went for a bit of a swim and had an early night. on sunday the weather was pretty cold so we toured around in our minibus( rented a 9 seater minibus for the 6 of us!!) . the roads were a bit crazy in places as well. did a tour of the island and then went for a swim in the evening again. silly maeve was racing micilin into the water and forgot to take my glasses off, so i'm glasses less at the moment which is a bit of a nuisance, but sure its my own fault. had a few hot whiskeys that night and a bit of craic with some of the locals and a few fishermen out from the main land for the weekend. monday was a smashing day so managed to pull the weekend out of the bag with an hours fishing. fluffy caught a fish that was so ugly he had to throw it back in! that was the height of the fishing trip. saw a big sting ray swimming around though which was cool. got on the ferry then at 3, which had been cancelled the day before because of the high seas! it was a ferry ride from hell to say the least, the boat was going up and down and up and down and it was freezing as well. myself and mickilin and fluff were the worse for ware after it. mick rechristened us Iffy Miffy, Sick Mick and Ruff Fluff!! very appropriate. some dolphins were swimming alongside the ferry for a good while. anyway after 5 hours on the ferrry we werent up to much when we got home. was still feeling the effects this mornign when i started my temping. didnt make too many friends on my first day with a big scowl on my face all morning. so i'm there till friday and then myself and jen are taking next week off before our trip down south. we have a new friend in the house too, Richard the rat, Jenny is getting on great with him !!! anyway that's all for now
