happy new year
well hello and happy new year to everyone!
well its been a crazy 2 weeks and now that everyone's gone its just myself and herself again so there's nothign to do but update the ole blog.
all teh fun started on our last night in hastings (at this point i think i should advise the aul pair to stop reading so as to save myself a further lecture on teh evils of drinking!) anyway last night in hastings they put on quite a show for everyone. dinner was at 7 o'clock (a german 7 not an irish 7!) and everybody contributed a suitable dish. of course the irish had to stop off at teh pub , it being the last day at work and arrived at 7 o'clock stinking and smelly with the food still waiting to be heated up! ahhh!! anwyay we threw the stew in the microwave and grabbed a few beeers and all was well. it was like feeding teh starving millions and everyone stuffed tehmselves so much (especially elias who had to go to bed early after 3 dinners!greedy was definately the word of the day!) that no one could move for a coulple of hours, however santa arrived in on his motorbike to liven things up, which of course he did, givign us the ususal kiwi jeer about brian o'driscoll while handing jenny a candle!! (she must have been bold this year!). later on myself and jen decided the party was far to quiet altogether and pulled the pogues out of teh boot of teh car and had ceili mor in the kitchen with a load of koreans, japanese, germans and God knows who else!
the next day we finally made it up to auckland (9 o'clock) to be reunited with all the bowsies up there and another night of madness was on the cards. the following day we made it up to the bay of islands where mickilin and fluffy had booked us a huge big house (called the white house) with three stories and a deck etc . everyone finally arrived (the whole 25 of us!!) it was pure madness from day one (which was christmas eve). christmas day kiwi style was quite interesting. a coulple of us headed off to mass in the morning which was in this wee little church. the priest asked everyone from a foreign place to contribute a christmas greeting and sully stuck his hand up and wished everyone "dia duit" from ireland! anyway by the time mass was over most of the dinner prep was done (phew!) and the rest of us sat outside with the wine. the dinner was sereved up buffet style and there was nothing missing, two turkeys, two hams, salad, and all the rest (including fluff's banoffe special!). the day continued to night and we'd a couple of drinking games to liven things up , the night ended with plenty of drunken phone calls to the folks at home wishing them the best of teh season! we also had a bit of a sing song for the neighbours benefit, and later still maeve teh conductor conducted the orchestra of jenny (on saucepan lids and molly on sweeping brush and vinny on mic) to the many tunes of molly's ipod!)
the next day was a little quieter needless to say however, the following day we managed to fit in a bit of tourism, myself jen and a few of the other lazy heads int he group got a day cruise on the tall ship around some of the islands, which was very relaxing and a bit of craic as well (especially when lewi had to hoist the sails! he he he! ) after a tough day on the water we were well rested for another night of partying luckily enough russell obliged us by having two great hard rock bands into their little town on a one night only showing!! well myself , mickilin and pete made the most of this one off opportunity with a few strong bacardis on the way into town and then moshing all night long, almost ended in a row or two and nearly lost hangbag (with passport and camera! oops! no harm done though , got it back) also got to meet the lead singer in steriogram!! (i gave him a dead arm for his trouble ! mruu ha ha ha!) the fun continued back at teh house with fluff winning this years cornflake box challenge!! walrus was a close second , but nearly never won the race eh! and all credit to this years champ!! (he he he!)
the following day was a day of relaxation and cleaning! and the following morning we left the sleepy village of russell for warmer climes (and the locals then had their party!)
the next night we took the tents out and got the sleeping bags rolled out in this shitty wee campsite beside some good surf with different maori gangs camping a stones throw away! we kept it down a bit that night (ghought it would be wiser to keep a low profile!) and the following day the boys decided they needed a bit of a challenge and their tired worn out bodies hadnt gone through enough so they decided a cycle up the 90 mile beach was in order.!! good lads! anyway mself and jen and lewi etc , decided to a have a lewi day, with breakfast at one o'clock over looking the sea followed by a nice leisurely round of golf (me and jen didnt actually feel up to the golf so lay out on the fairway and read for a while). headed on up to the top of nz then, this was nearly too much for natalie (mick's car) and she nearly gave up the ghost on the way, we did finally make it and managed to pitch the ole tents in the dark. one of the nicest beaches i've seen yet awaited us in teh mornign , white sand, waves , clear blue sea , blah blah blah! anwya we headed back south for the new years eve party madness! (?) .stopped off for sandboarding on the way which was great craic. unfortunatly there were no chair lifts on the sand dunes so our tired bodies could only make it up a few times before we were well and truly fecked and needed another beer (ah no only messing mother!!) . after lunch walrus was landed in our car with myself and herself (lucky guy !) and all the fun began. after clearly arranging to head for piahia for new years eve (150km away) we took off at the back of the convoy!! as i was nearly asleep at the wheel walrus the speed demon took over and sped past natalie and all teh road blocks seargent lewi had set up to put us off our mission (no contact could be made with runaway heidi to inform us of the new arrangement due to technical failure of teh phones - walrus doesnt know how to switch his on and jen's only works every now and then due to overuse!! i dont have one at teh mo)! after a road chase by natalie , which we were completely unaware off (fast asleep at the time) , poor ole natalie nearly gave up the ghost but passed the responsibility onto trusty gunther and his merry gang which were on teh way to the new years party! unfortunately we raced past them wondering who was tooting at us and even though they tried to chase us down Fint was no match for Walrus behind teh wheel. Blew into Piahia 10 mins early to the sound of jenny's phone waking up to inform us we had gone 100km out of our way (200 round trip!). after a lot of cursing and giving out , and a bit of passifiying by seargent lewi we didnt see the funny side at all and made our way back to kaitia. we stopped off for vodka , red bull and some cider and arrived into kaitia, to a lot of sheepish faces, after we'd made everyone feel really bad about what happened we felt a lot better (mruu ha haha !)and the party started with a few innocent red bulls and vodkas! we headed on out to the only night club in kaitia where we danced the night away. the place had never seen the like of it before (we were now 30 irish on the loose!). they had to run across to the garage to get the coke and orange for teh vodka and after the second round there was no draft beer left and after the third no bottles, (which may partly explain the events which happened later!)the night ended with a bit of fun (?) on the street when mick pushed gunther into a shop window, which broke (oops!) the police were on the scene and teh two criminals were led off in the paddy wagon to teh amusement of everyone else (except rosie the bride to be) who waited up at the hostel singing the night away!! mick owned up to the crime straight away and got off with a fine and a slap on the wrist, however gunther thought he could foil the law and pleaded innocent (even though there was about 40 witnesses!) he also decided he didnt know mick or anyother irish person there, i think he also forgot his real name was john kelly, not gunther!! he he he! anyway after much interrogation the heavy men were brought in and fint managed to talk a bit of sense into him. the situation calmed down with a written appolgy in the policemans notebook by guther and a promise to be a good little boy for the rest of his holiday (to rosie!). there was a great welcome for the kaitia 2 back at the hostel and the festivities continued well into the night.
the following day most of the gang departed (thank God!) and a green gunther (and team) and a not so roudy mickilin ( and team) made it down to paihia with us. we managed to get into some riverside hostel for a quiet night (got the last room in the place and managed to score a few beds on the ground! at that stage we could have slept hanging upside down from the rafters so it was grand!) the following day mick took off for auckland and gunther etc and myself and herself decided one last hooraa was in order with a night out in the famous piahia, where we had a savage bit of dancing, some people got a few kisses (jenny says hello to fint he he he!) and that was that the holiday was over!
i dont know if any one is still reading this (skip to here mother )but anyway myself and jen decided to hang on around northland for another coulple of days, spent a few nights in some very strange hostels (one was like being at teh flinstones house). anyway today we finally arrived at our base for teh next few weeks. keri keri is a small enough town famous for all kinds of fruit , including mandarins, which wel'll be working on starting monday. our living quarters for teh moment being tom's spacious 3 man tent set up in the luxury of teh top 10 holiday park. the detox is in full swing and we are doing our best to avoid the 24 hour bug going around. have to go now, cos it'll be dark soon and we've no lamp for our tent so bed time is before nine until we sort something out.
happy new year everyone, will put up some photos when i can be bothered. we will be grateful for emails with christmas craic from anyone to cheer us up as we are now thoroughly depressed that all the fun is over .
all the best
